Covert Mortality Nodavirus (CMNV) is a virus that primarily infects whiteleg shrimp and other aquatic species, causing running mortality syndrome in shrimp farming. In 2026, CMNV was identified as the causative agent of POH-VAU, a severe human eye disease. The virus has been detected in 49 aquatic species worldwide and can jump from marine animals to humans through seafood handling and consumption.

Symptoms
