Caribbean
Reviewed by Alexander Webber, Chief Epidemiologist · Updated 2026-08
The Bahamas is a relatively low-risk destination compared to much of the Caribbean, with no malaria risk and well-developed tourist infrastructure on major islands. Mosquito-borne illnesses including dengue fever and Zika virus have caused outbreaks in the islands and remain a consideration. Healthcare is adequate in Nassau and Freeport but limited on the Family Islands (Out Islands). Overall health risk is low to moderate with appropriate precautions.
