Middle East

Oman is one of the more travel-health-friendly destinations in the Middle East, with good healthcare infrastructure in Muscat and major cities. MERS-CoV is present in the Arabian Peninsula and camel exposure should be avoided. Malaria has historically occurred in parts of Oman but transmission is now minimal. Cyclone season from May through October occasionally affects coastal areas and can disrupt healthcare access in southern Dhofar governorate.

Malaria risk in Oman is very low and largely confined to remote areas near the Yemeni border in Dhofar Governorate. No malaria risk in Muscat, Salalah city, or major tourist destinations.
Bottled water is recommended throughout Oman as tap water quality varies. Food safety in hotels and established restaurants in Muscat and Salalah is generally reliable. Avoid unpasteurized dairy products and raw seafood from informal vendors, particularly during hot summer months.
