Four years ago, while hospitalized with Covid-19, St. Petersburg singer Ksenia Aleksandrova was unexpectedly diagnosed with HIV. Known by her stage name Neksusha, the 23-year-old Aleksandrova has built a devoted online following, with around 90,000 subscribers on YouTube and more than 213,000 monthly listeners on Spotify. Despite the persistent stigma that surrounds HIV, she decided to publicly disclose her diagnosis in an effort to raise awareness about the illness. "I'm not a drug user, I'm not a sex worker. It just happened, I've been in a monogamous relationship for a year and my partner is HIV-negative," she told journalists at the time. "I realized I was tired of staying silent. I have a platform and I want to use my story to help other people," she said. Since then, Neksusha has ope...

Social service nonprofits responded immediately. They organized emergency housing, connected refugees with schools and healthcare, helped families navigate government services and distributed food and other basic necessities. In the first weeks of the crisis, those nonprofits relied on volunteers and existing community networks to meet urgent needs. I research nonprofits. My Fulbright Scholarship in the Czech Republic coincided with Russia's invasion of Ukraine, providing an unexpected opportunity to study how nonprofits responded to the refugee crisis. With my colleagues Monica Lea and Vladimir Hyánek, I interviewed 13 Czech nonprofit leaders between February and June 2022. About a year later, we surveyed 235 Czech nonprofits. One finding stood out: Many nonprofits that mobilized to help ...

White House Backs Lab Leak Theory for COVID-19 Origin

Indonesia 2026-08-01

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The White House has renewed debate over the origins of COVID-19, saying the virus most likely emerged from a laboratory-related incident in Wuhan, China. In a report titled "Lab Leak: The True Origins of COVID-19," the White House argues that the evidence at hand indicates a research-related accident rather than a natural spillover from animals. The White House says its assessment is based on several factors, including coronavirus research conducted at the Wuhan Institute of Virology, reports of illnesses among researchers before the outbreak was publicly identified, and the absence of a confirmed animal source for the virus. Why the U.S. government supports the lab leak theory According to the White House, the Wuhan Institute of Virology's research on bat coronaviruses...

To compare the interviews, which were held after the pandemic, with data generated during the pandemic, a content analysis of written and publicly available reports and meeting minutes from the respective scientific advisory bodies was conducted, guided by the question: How were scientific advisors' role perceptions reflected in the policy briefs, meeting minutes, and reports published by these scientific advisory bodies during the pandemic? First, a student assistant and BMZ coded NCS-TF policy briefs (n = 149), reports from the German Federal Expert Council (n = 12), and SAGE meeting minutes (n = 105) in MaxQDA24 using four broad codes: scientific background, interpretation, arguments, and recommendations. The student assistant wrote an analytical memo about preliminary observed country ...

The post then criticised people for protesting against NZ Muscle while claiming they had failed to show the same resistance to the Government's Covid-19 vaccine mandates. "Where were you motherfers when they rolled out an experimental fin' vaccine and mRNA f***in' bioweapon disguised as a vaccine?," the post said. The man linked the vaccine to "turbo cancers" and a supposed "depopulation agenda", urging viewers to form an "army of resistance" against what he called a "corrupt government". Appearing on Ryan Bridge TODAY, Letele told host Nadine Higgins he reshared the post under the impression that it was only backing him.
